yes it is contagious. It also gets on furniture and clothes. When my son had it I bought and egg crate and made him stay on it until it healed. Then I threw the egg crate away. Use gloves when touching clothes to wash. Call pharmacy and talk with them they can tell you what to do.
This above answer is very misleading, as only under certain circumstances can one get poison ivy from another person. When the original oils from the plant are still one your skin, it is contagious to someone else, but these original oils are taken away once the first shower is taken. After the first shower is taken, an individual is no longer contagious. Any liquid that is produced by ones body due to the poison ivy, however gross, can not give someone else an outbreak.

∙ 13y agoI have been told by my dermatologist that you can get poison ivy in your blood stream. It has happened to me twice. I get poison ivy every year 2-3 times. Usually with no know explanation of where it came from. Once many years ago, I got it so badly after moving a stack of wood that my face, eyes, mouth etc. began to swell severely. My eyes would not open. My doctor said that the poison ivy had gotten in my blood steam. My face itched and was red, but it never got a rash as the other parts of my body did. It recently happened again. I had poison ivy on about 8 separate places on my body. My face and especially eyes began to itch terribly. Redness developed then the swelling. The poison ivy and swelling in my eyes all began to go away around the same time. I truly believe that they are connected and it was in my blood stream.
