I don't think it's possible to memorize the ishihara book of numbers, there many different versions. But there is a doctor in Maryland who guarantees 100% that you can pass the test with his color correction system. Check out his website http:/www.colormax.org . Color vision correction changed my life as I know have my dream job. I personally thinks its discrimination against color blind people. People who wear contacts lenses can't pass a regular eye test without their lenses. So I why should be any different for color blindness!

Can black people be colorblind?

yes, black people can be colorblind. i does not matter what color or culture you are from. both white and black people can be colorblind

Why are men more likely than women to be colorblind?

Yes. Because the colorblind trait is a sexlinked trait and is found in the X chromosome that is inherited from the mother, men that only have one X chromosome will develop colorblindness if the trait is found in this gene. For a woman to get it, she would need to have the colorblind gene on both x chromosomes. Therefore the girl´s dad would have to be colorblind and the mother at least a carrier.

What would represent a colorblind male in a pedigree?

Filled squares

What must occur for a girl to be colorblind?

Each parent must have the recessive allele for colorblindness.

Why is colorblindness more common in males?

It's because it's, what we call, a "sex-linked disorder." You see, men have "xy" chromosomes, and women have "xx" chromosomes. In a sex-linked disorder, all "x" chromosomes in either of the genes have to be affected. if you see an affected x chromosome, it would look something like this "xa". The "y" chromosomes don't become affected, I don't think. Women who have only one x chromosome affected are called "carriers," meaning they aren't affected by the disorder, but they carry it in their genes and can pass it on to their offspring. They don't ALWAYS pass on to the child, but it CAN happen. So why is it easier for men to become colorblind? They have less x chromosomes. If you need more help understanding how that works, google "Colorblindness and punnet square." The Punnet Square is very important to add to your research! if you're curious.

Is a carrier for colorblindness is colorblind?

Not necessarily. The allele for colorblindness is recessive. For a female, in order to be colorblind she must have to recessive alleles for colorblindness. Example: XcXc would be colorblind. XCXc would be a carrier for colorblindness, but not colorblind. For a male, because colorblindness is a sex-linked gene, he only needs one allele to be colorblind. Example: XcY is colorblind. XCY is not colorblind.
