The weeverfish is venomous and lives in the coastal areas of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Eastern Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and European Coastal areas. Pain from the sting is instant and peaks at around 30 minutes and usually goes away in 24 hours. It can last many days. The area where stung may show redness and bruising. Swelling can occur. Infections can occur because of the depth of the sting. There have been cases of gangrene caused by an infection of the sting site.
