During mitosis, DNA in the nucleus is copied and passed to the new cells

Cell Division occurs in a series of stages, or phases.

1st Interphase:

- Chromosomes are copied (#doubles)

- Chromosomes appear as threadlike coils (chromatin) at the start, but each chromosome and its copy (sister chromosome) change to sister chromatids at end of this phase.

2nd Prophase:

- Mitosis begins (cells begin to divide)

- Centrioles (or poles) appear to begin to move to opposite ends of the cell.

- Spindle fibers form between the poles.

3rd Metaphase:

- Chromatids (or pairs of chromosomes) attach to the spindle fibers.

4th Anaphase:

- Chromatids (or pairs of chromosomes) seperate and begin to move to opposite ends of the cell.

5th Telophase:

- Two new nuclei form.

- Chromosomes appear as chromatin (threads rather than rods)

- Mitosis ends.

6th Cytokinesis:

- Cell membrane moves inward to create two daughter cells -- each with its own nucleus with identical chromosomes.

What is the DNA of mitosis?

There is no DNA of mitosis. Before mitosis, the DNA must be replicated, which occurs during interphase of the cell cycle.

Can DNA be copied in mitosis?

DNA is not copied during mitosis . Mitosis is meant for division of cell and DNA is divided in two daughter cells .

Does mitosis begin with DNA replication?

Yes, mitosis begins with DNA replication.

Mitosis is processed by what?

Mitosis is processed by DNA replicating

Is DNA replication involved in mitosis or meiosis?

DNA replication is involved in both mitosis and meiosis.

When does DNA replicate during mitosis?

DNA replicates during the S phase of the cell cycle, which occurs before mitosis.

When and where is DNA copied and separated?

Mitosis

What is the ratio of DNA in a daughter cell after mitosis?

The ratio of DNA in a daughter cell after mitosis is 2:1. Mitosis produces two daughter cells that are identical to the parent cell.

Is the chromosome number reduced by mitosis?

No,because mitosis is basically the movement of the organelles, during interphase (previous to the phases of mitosis) DNA is replicated and the cell grows. Although it may seem the DNA is being abolished,it isn't. DNA is actually being compacted in mitosis, not disappearing.

During which phase of mitosis is the DNA duplicated?

During the S phase of the cell cycle, which occurs before mitosis, the DNA is duplicated through the process of DNA replication.

What is copied before mitosis begins?

DNA, the genetic material, of course. Also mitochondria and chloroplasts need to divide. This is the process of mitosis where two daughter cells are produced and both will need the complete complement of genetic material; DNA.

When does DNA copy itself in mitosis?

DNA copies itself during the S phase of the cell cycle, which occurs before mitosis.
