Contrary to the previous answer that was apparently pulled out of thin air (49%), 25% do not believe in evolution one way or another, while 36% have no opinion on the matter.
39% of Americans believe in evolution, with a majority of them being nonreligious or liberally-leaning.

Absolutely. There aren't many scientists today that do not accept the theory of evolution, but yet many, many of them are religious. The group of people 'claiming' that evolution cannot coexist with religion are religious fanatics & evolutionist devotee's. Do not mind them.
Mainly because they do not understand the process of evolution, or they refuse to believe it on fundamentalist grounds.
Natural Selection is what Darwin believed was the cause of evolution.
I understand that he did not believe in God/Jesus even thought he was Jewish. I do not recall reading anything about is beliefs on evolution. Does someone have the answer to this question? Thanks
Charles Darwin rejected the Scriptures (Bible) and came up with evolution. Pierre-Louis Moreau believed that the Earth was flat. Maupertuis believed we got here by "lucky chance". These are some of the many that believe on evolution. (Hopefully you aren't one of them.)
That is somewhat of an over-generalization, because many Americans do believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, but there are certainly a great many who don't. Evotution is seen by some people as competing with the bible. The bible says that God created life (apparently by magic) and evolution describes a different way that life could have come into existence without requiring divine intervention. Fundamentalist Americans prefer the bible to science.
Accept. " Believe in " has connotations that do not fit the rational mind well. I have heard a range of figures. Many fence sitters and theist evolution types here. Anywhere from 14% to 25% of the US population accepts evolutionary theory.
They began to believe that wealth was a sign of "survival of the fittest."

It is not forbidden by Catholicism to believe in evolution. The reason many people who believe in a god do not believe in evolution is that evolution's adversary, Intelligent Design, makes far more sense to one who believes in God that anyone who does not, although you can believe in intelligent design and not believe in God.
The present diversity of life on Earth came about by means of evolution.
Sir Arthur Keith who believes in evolution said, "Evolution is unproved and unprovable. We believe it ONLY because the only alternative is special creation, and that is unthinkable."
You can believe evolution was caused by God and he controls it.
I believe in evolution because we find so many fossils from the past and still no miracle from God has yet happened. I believe in creation because there is way more proof!!
Atheism is the lack of belief in deities. Evolution is the change in organisms over time. They are two different subject and many of those that accept evolution also believe in deities, so...
The average layman to believe in evolution averages on 60% (about 20% in America). For the expertsin the the field, all across the world, the average is 99.99%.
I do not ' believe ' in evolution, but I am convinced by the evidence.
