Both have similar kinetics, meaning the mechanism by which they work is similar.

In facilitated diffusion, a ligand moves through a membrane through a channel. If the concentration of ligand increases, the rate of diffusion increases until the channel becomes saturated and can work no faster. If the concentration of channel increases, the rate increases until the ligands become "saturated".

Enzyme catalyzed reactions work similarly, except they are not moving through a membrane. If the ligand increases in concentration, the rate of reaction increases until the enzyme becomes saturated. If the enzyme concentration increases, the rate of reaction increases until all the ligands become "saturated".

Facilitated diffusion is basically a protein enhanced transport system, just like an enzyme reaction is basically a protein enhanced metabolic system.

Same math, same graphs, same mechanism, same components.

Compare and contrast diffusion and facilitated diffusion?

They both require a trans membrane protein. Facilitated diffusion does not require energy whereas active transport requires energy. Facilitated diffusion takes place when there is a net movement of molecules from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration whereas active transport takes place when there is a net movement of molecules from a region of low concentration to a region of high concentration.

What facilitates the diffusion of water across the cell membrane?

Osmosis is a type of simple diffusion in which water molecules diffuse through a selectively permeable. Simple diffusion and facilitated diffusionare similar in that both involve.

Is facilitated diffusion is an active transport?

The name itself indicates there difference. Diffusion occurs without any other active participant/free flow diffusion is called Transport diffusion. Diffusion occurs with help of other active participant is called Facilitate Diffusion

Is facilitated diffusion type of active transport?

Facilitated diffusion is passive transport as no energy is used, and a protein channel is all that's required. After that it is simple diffusion down a concentration gradient. Anything with the word diffusion in it is passive transport. Diffusion is just the principle of passive transport.

How are facilitated diffusion and active transport similar ad how do the differ?

both these processes do the transport against the concentration gradient uh no facilitated diffusion doesnt go against the gradient, the similiarity is that they both use carrier protiens

How is faciliated transport similar to simple diffusion?

Facilitated and simple diffusion both transport solutes along a concentration gradient and neither processes require any ATP expenditure.

Does facilitated diffusion need membrain protein?

The proteins may assist in the movement of substances by facilitated diffusion or active transport. These mechanisms of movement are known as carrier mediated transport. Each carrier protein is designed to recognize only one substance or one group of very similar substances. Research has correlated defects in specific carrier proteins with specific diseases.

How are active transport and facilitated diffusion similar?

Both serve to transport molecules across cell membranes and both make use of proteins embedded in cell membrane in order to move these molecules.
