If we look at the seven usual indicators of life, we can consider their application to tidal water.Movement: by this we mean self initiated movement, and the tide is simply responding to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon.
Respiration: using food to release energy; this is obviously not applicable.
Sensitivity: detection of changes in the environment so response is possible; again, obviously not
Growth: the water doesn't get bigger, it's just moving from place to place
Reproduction: water can't do this
Excretion: water doesn't make waste to get rid of
Nutrition: the water doesn't take substances in to use in life processes, though it does dissolve mineral salts which in a sense become part of it.

According to the cell theory; for an object to be considered alive, it must be made of cells and cell products.Source- Mcdougall Littel 10th grade Biology TextbookAny object that is an organic object is considered to be alive.
Viruses aren't alive because they cannot survive on their own. They need to mesh with another cell in order to function.
no, fire is not "alive". First of all, the definition of "life" is interesting. It appears you read a book that says there are 5 characteristics, while in my college bio book it says 7 characteristics, so you can see it is already arbitrary. I will use the 7 characteristics in my book just b/c I have it with me and I don't know what your "5 characteristics" are. Note, for something to be "alive" it basically has to have all these qualities. Things that have some of these qualities but not all are not alive (such as viruses). 1. Are hightly organized compared to natural inanimate objects. (Fire fails) 2. Display homeostasis, maintaining a relatively constant internal environment. (Fire fails) 3. Reproduce themselves. (Arguable, but I'd say fire passes) 4. Grow and Develop from simple beginnings. (Fire passes) 5. Take energy and matter from the environment and transform it. (Hmm, I'd say fire passes but then again fire IS energy so maybe not...) 6. Respond to stimuli (I'd say fire fails) 7. Show adaptation to their environment (I donno lol) So as you can see since fire does not pass all it is not alive. Of course almost everything passes at least one of these things, for example try asking these 7 things about a rock!
Dead things are those who were once alive. Nonliving thing were never alive (ex. rock, viruses...) Living things are made up of units called cells, reproduce, are based on a universal genetic code (DNA & RNA), grow and develop, obtain and use materials and energy, respond to the environment, maintain a stable internal environmet and taken as a group, living things change over time.
Some people argue that viruses are not alive because they lack any form of energy, carbon metabolism, and they canâ??t replicate or evolve. Therefore, they do not exhibit the same set of characteristics of all living things.
No, it has no way of excretion.
no, i dont think it will right . no, i dont think it will right .
i dont think so because a newt is a salamander and mammals have alive babies and have hair or fur and newts dont have those qualities
According to the 7 characteristics of life. . . Sensitivity and reactivity to the environment and Capacity for adaptation: Yes Ingestion of substance for energy: No Reproduction: Yes Respiration: No Emission of wastes: No Internal Movement: Yes Cellular Structure: No Given that water is only 3/7 "Yes", we can assume that no, water is not "alive" in these senses.
They have all the characteristics of life.
Viruses have some characteristics of life but these are not considered living organisms as they are non cellular.
Characteristics are things about something For example Mammals Characteristics : - Fur or Hair - Born alive - Hot blooded - Omnivore
It's Alive.
NO, it doesn't have any of the characteristics of living things.
Yes. If it's alive, it requires energy. This includes prokaryotes, fungi, eukaryotes, and anything else you can think of. The use of energy is one of the fundamental qualities of life.
i think he is still alive
yes is alive i think!
