DO NOT run cold water over it right away, or it will blister. Your best bet is to run hot water over it gradually decreasing the temperature to cold. Then you can apply ice wrapped in a cloth. If you have much of a burn, one thing you can do is pack it with a paste made of baking soda and water. Tie a cloth around it to pack the baking soda paste against your skin, and keep it moist.
