The outside layer of the animal cell is the cell membrane.

Plant cells have rigid cell walls made of cellulose that provide structural support and prevent drastic changes in shape. Animal cells do not have a cell wall and rely on their cytoskeleton for support, allowing them to change shape more easily.
because Onion is a plant. Plant cells have a large vacuole in the centre of the cell which push the surrounding organelles and the nucleus towards the periphery. On the contrary, if you observe an animal cell you will find that the nucleus is situated right at the center because the vacuole is small comparatively and does not occupy a large space at the center.
In negative staining, the stain outlines the outer edge of the cell, providing a more precise measurement of cell size. In contrast, simple stains can penetrate the cell membrane, making it difficult to accurately determine the cell boundary and thus its size. Negative staining is a better method for assessing size because it highlights the silhouette of the cell.
The cell membrane
Cell membrane
The outer edge of a cell's cytoplasm is called the cell membrane or plasma membrane. It acts as a boundary that controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell. The cell membrane is composed of a phospholipid bilayer embedded with proteins that help maintain the cell's shape and allow for communication with other cells.

The outer edge of a circle is called the circumference.
The out edge of a cup is called the 'Rim'.

Usually towards the edge of the cell, although since there is a jelly-like substance called cytoplasm in cells the location can never be exactly pinpointed.
A straight line from the center of a circle to the outer edge is called a radius.
It is called its bounds. In the case of 2 dimensional objects, it is part of the perimeter.
