Best Answer

Most of the energy that is released from aerobic respiration within the mitochondria is stored in the form of ATP(adenosine triphosphate). The energy is used to form a high-energy bond between ADP and an inorganic phosphate group, synthesizing a molecule of ATP.

Some of the energy is used, not for generating ATP, but for the active transport of substances across the inner membrane of the mitochondrion.

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the energy currency of all cells.Atp is found in chloroplast. Mitochondria use oxidative phosphorylation to harvest energy from compounds having large amounts of potential energy which anaerobic organisms (yeasts and many bacteria) relying solely upon glycolysis to harvest energy from similar compounds have no access to. The primary biochemical pathway used by mitochondira is the TCA (tricarboxcylic acid) or Kreb's cycle where glucose is broken down to pyruvate or pyruvic acid by several enzymes. In anaerobic organisms not possessing mitochondria, ATP is still the energy currency, but the amount of energy available to them is only approximately 5% of what aerobes can harvest by possessing mitochondria. Miitochondria themselves are maternally inherited and believed to have similar evolutionary origins to chloroplasts as bacterial endosymbionts.
