A inoculating loop is used for transfers from culture plates to culture tubes instead of the inoculating needle because the needle could puncture the agar in tube. The loop is much easier as well to get liquid amount into the tube.

The inoculating loop can collect more liquid because there is more metal present at the inoculating specimen retrieval point and has the ability to collect liquid in the loop. I'm currently taking general microbiology and my lab book hardly covers this. A.C.
