The horsepower needed for a 16-foot boat typically ranges from 30 to 90 hp, depending on the boat's design, weight, and intended use. For example, a lightweight aluminum fishing boat may only require around 30-50 hp, while a heavier fiberglass model or one designed for water sports might need closer to 70-90 hp. It's important to consult the manufacturer's recommendations for optimal performance and safety.

two stroke wise nothing less than 90hp on 16 ft size boat, It depends on 3 things, the size of the boat, the number of ppl in the boat and the age of the rider. Assuming you have a 16-19ft and 2-4 ppl in the boat to give a teenager a good ride you are going to want no less than 150hp if you have just young kids you dont really need much more than 100hp. If you want to give a terrifying ride you will need 200+ hp.
The smallest motor for a 16 foot Lowe boat is about 30 horsepower. The maximum size should be no more than 100 horsepower.

Look at the manufacturers plate on the boat for max HP and or weight. If there is none either call them or consult a marine engineer or body and get a rating tag fitted. My two previous motors on my 16 footer have been 90hp and 115hp.
