They didn't allow me to proceed with my barium swallow. They said that people who are allergic to dyes, iodine, or shellfish may also be allergic to barium so to be safe they didn't let me do it.
no it is only there as a dye of sorts to make your gi tract opaque so that they can take pictures of it during testing( ct scan)

iron(II
Add some litmus solution. If it's red, you have an acid. If it was red, I would try adding copper and if it were H2SO4 then copper (II) sulfate, a greenish blue salt, would be produced. Or if you added salt (NaCl) it might produce TOXIC and DANGEROUS hydrogen chloride gas. Or take a small sample and cook it down UNDER A FUME HOOD OR IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA WEARING A GAS MASK, then add a small piece of paper or some sawdust. If it is sulfuric acid, the cooked down stuff will be thick and syrupy. If paper is added, the syrup like substance will turn brown and the paper will decompose.
Prior to a barium enema you need to be NPO or nothing by mouth for 12 hours pre testing. The bowel needs to be prepped with either golightly or sodium phosphates the night before.
Sulfate is not same as sulfa drugs. So person allergic to sulfa drugs can take barium sulfate.
No problems, barium sulphate is insoluble.
Yes.
If one is allergic to shellfish, they are cleared to eat all regular fish. However, they should take care with eating sushi or other fishes, as there is sometimes shellfish residue.

As soon as your physician approves.
Nick is not allergic to anything. But he does have type 1 diabetes and has to take injections if his sugar levels aren't right.
Sulfa allergies refer to allergies in regards to sulfonamides, which are commonly found in antibiotic medications. Sulfa allergies do not refer to sulfate, which Instaflex contains Glucosamine Sulfate.

Yes; only penicillin group drugs must not be take, and gentamicin is not one of those.
NO!!!!! The warning is there for a reason. Sorry. I have a shellfish allergy and I can tell you that it's a bad idea. I went into anaphylatic shock (airway swells up) doing just that. Word to the wise, try something else.
