Not necessarily. You could have a relatively high Kcat but a moderate Km value. This is of course relative to all enzymes across the board. An example would be to compare catalase and acetylcholinesterase. Catalase has a Km of 1.1M but a Kcat of 4 X 10*7 while acetylcholinesterase has a Km of 9 X 10*-5 but a Kcat value of only 1.4 X 10*4. While a low Km value will definitely mean a high affinity of enzyme for substrate, this does not readily eqaute to a high Kcat value.

How might very low pH affect an enzyme's hydrogen bonds?

A very low pH can break the hydrogen bonds in an enzyme which causes the shape of the enzyme to change shape making the enzyme unable to do it's job. This is called "denaturation" However some enzymes such as pepsin only work in a low pH (pepsin works best in a pH of about 3) so it does depend on the enzyme.

What happens to pepsin in high pH levels?

Pepsin is an enzyme that functions optimally in acidic environments, such as the stomach's low pH. In high pH levels, like those found in the small intestine, pepsin becomes denatured and its enzymatic activity decreases or stops altogether.

How does pH influence the rate of enzyme reaction?

The optimum pH is that at which the reaction takes place quickest. A change in pH above or below this optimum denatures the enzyme (ultimately breaking hydrogen bonds that maintain the tertiary structure). This means that the rate is reduced as you change the pH, but not stopped totally as only some of the enzyme molecules are denatured. Why would a washing powder of high pH or low pH be difficult to handle?

actors such as temperature and pH can affect an enzyme's rate of reaction because enzymes are sensitive to pH and heat. Most enzymes can only function in a particular temperature or pH range, and as the enzyme works out of its normal temperature and pH range, it will denature (change in shape so that the active site no longer fits with the substrate and the enzyme can't function).

Is humidity liquid?

Humidity is not a liquid itself but rather a measure of the amount of water vapor present in the air. High humidity means there is a high concentration of water vapor in the air, while low humidity means there is less water vapor present.

True or False Low Km means that an enzyme binds very loosely to a substrate andd consequently results in a high velocity compared to an enzyme with a high Km?

False. Low Km actually indicates a strong binding of the enzyme to the substrate, resulting in a high affinity and low velocity at low substrate concentrations. High Km means a weak binding of the enzyme to the substrate and requires higher substrate concentrations for the enzyme to achieve maximum velocity.

What does it mean when an enzyme has a low value for its Michaelis constant?

It indicates that the enzyme has a high affinity for the substrate.

The expression high and low means?

The expression high and low means that a person can be high, which is happy. A person can also be low, which means they are sad.

What digestive enzyme does not function in high pH?

Pepsin is a digestive enzyme that does not function well in high pH conditions. It works optimally in acidic environments, like the stomach, where the pH is low.

What is pitch in singing?

Pitch is how high or low you sing, it your singing high, it means your singing at a high pitch. And if you sing low, it means you're singing at a low pitch.

What are advantage and disadvantage of trade bank?

High interest means that the interest is high, low interest means the interest is low

How does low and high pressure affect the weather?

High pressure means there is going to be rain in that area. Low means the opposite.

High pressure means there is going to be rain in that area. Low means the opposite.

How does temperature change the action of enzymes?

Temperature can affect enzyme activity because enzymes work best within specific temperature ranges. At low temperatures, enzyme activity decreases as the molecules move more slowly, decreasing the likelihood of enzyme-substrate collisions. At high temperatures, enzyme activity can be disrupted because the enzyme structure can become denatured, leading to a loss of function. Optimal temperature for enzyme activity varies depending on the specific enzyme.

What is a weather low?

It means that low pressure air is in that area. Low pressure means high temperature but sometimes storms.

Will a substrate with low affinity stay long in active site?

No, a substrate with low affinity will not stay long in the active site of an enzyme. This is because substrates with low affinity have weaker interactions with the active site compared to substrates with high affinity, resulting in quicker dissociation from the enzyme.

What means how high or low a sound is?

The pitch of a sound refers to how high or low it is. It is determined by the frequency of the sound waves, with high frequencies corresponding to high pitches and low frequencies to low pitches.
