The compound sugar is broken down in water which is a great solvent. You get a glass of water and pour a spoon of sugar in. shake the glass and the sugar will appear gone although this is not the case. Before you shake the glass the sugar molecules are bunched together and easy to see but after shaking the glass the sugar molecules have separated into single molecules which cannot be seen without the use of a magnifying tool.
