As of July 2009, there are 117 elements on the Periodic Table.As of November 2009, there are 126 elements on the Periodic Table.3 are recently discovered and don't have much data, unless my previous number wer counted wrong. Hope this helps!

There is a column 15 in a wide form periodic table, which contains the stable elements nitrogen, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth, for a subtotal of 5, and may contain one of the very heavy and radioactive elements recently made.
There are many relatively new elements that have been added to the periodic table over the last few decades, like the element Copernicium, a man made element that was discovered by the Gesellschaft fur Schwerionenforschung (GSI) in 1996. And although there have not been any discoveries in the last 14 years, there are quantum physicists that spend there time looking for the next element.

Aluminum's family is called the Boron family because it is the first element in the column. They all have three electrons in the outer valance shell and all but Uut (recently discovered) were discovered in the 1800's. Most of the elements also go through Beta decay, but not all. The group consits of poor metals with the exeption of Born, which is a metalloid.
