Had the gas man in and he changed the gas supply line from the shutoff valve to the log set from a one/quarter to a three/eighths diameter line. Then he adjusted the air mixture (it is a secured by a small screw and turns to restrict or increase air supply to the burner. In my case he increased the amount of air and that decreased the noise level.
Try it first by playing with the air mixture. That might solve your problem without having to mess with increasing the size of the gas supply line. If you have to change the line don't forget to check for leaks by squirting some dish-washing liquid on the connections.

What is the thermo couling on a gas log insert?

A thermocouple is a device used to sense the flame of a pilot light. IF the pilot light is not burning, the thermocouple does not permit the main flow of gas to the gas logs. Thermocouples DO wear out, are relatively cheap, and are made to be replaced.

Why does the gas log fireplace smells like a chemical?

The chemical smell in a gas log fireplace could be due to dust and debris burning off when you first start using it after a period of inactivity. It could also be caused by the presence of soot or residue on the burner or logs. It's important to ensure proper ventilation and have the fireplace inspected to rule out any gas leaks or other safety concerns.

What safety features are required for a gas log fireplace?

A way to make sure that your gas log fireplace is safe is to make sure the logs fit correctly in the fireplace. Keep the logs a safe distance from curtains and carpets. A glass cover keeps children and pets at a safe distance. Make sure that you have proper vents to release the heat.

When a 1 kilogram log was burned 0.05 kilogram of ash was produced. The mass of the ash is less than the mass of the log because?

the ash consists of the non-combustible components of the log, such as minerals and other inorganic materials. These components make up a smaller portion of the log's mass, leading to the reduction in mass when the log is burned. The lighter ash is left behind once the organic matter in the log is converted to gases and released into the atmosphere during the combustion process.

How does the air gas mixing chamber of a fireplace log lighter work?

The gas orfice when operating creates a vacuum drawing combustion air into the burner. This is the reason that gas pressures vary between types. Natural gas appliances operate at a nominal 3.5" wc pressure, while LP appliances run 10-11" wc. Natural gas has about 1000 btu's per cubic foot, while LP gas has about 2500. As an example, if you were to reduce the manifold pressure of LPG, you would have an oxygen starved mixture that would not burn properly. lc
