All chemicals have pH numbers. pH is measured with litmus paper and a color scale. Here are some pH values of common substances: Ammonia 11.5 Blood 7.5 Lemon Juice 2.2 Milk 7.0 Milk of Magnesia 10.5 Orange Juice 3.5 PURE Water 7.0 Sea Water 8.5 Soft Drink 3.0 Vinegar 2.8 To measure pH, all you have to do is dip it in the liquid, and it should change color. You should be able to get the color scale by going to Google and typing in Litmus Color Scale. I couldn't tell you the colors, because they are too detailed and hard to explain. The pH scale ranges from 0 (acidic) to 14 (alkaline). And no, you are not going to die if you drink orange juice. If it works correctly, you should end up with a greenish color (an acid), or a bluish color (an alkaline). PURE water is neutral (with a pH of 7.00), so the litmus paper would not change color, except maybe darker because of the moisture. I do not know where you can get litmus paper, but Google might have it. PS: I am very smart, trust me.

The term pH derives from a combination of "p" for the word power and "H" for the symbol of the element Hydrogen. Together the meaning is the power or exponent of hydrogen.

From the group of VERY weak acid, ammonium ions (NH4+) and boric acid (HBO(OH)2) are the most common with pKa = 9.2. Their 0.1 M solutions would have pH round 5.1.
