A battery can actually be made into any size, but very small batteries would be drained in a matter of seconds and are thus useless. Since zinc-carbon batteries contain less electrical energy per volume compared to an alkaline battery they are normally used for the larger sizes of batteries. Rayovac has published a graph where the zinc-carbon and alkaline batteries have been compared. It shows that the alkaline battery works just as good after 17 hours of use as the zinc-carbon battery does after only 8 hours of use. (http://www.rayovac.com/technical/pdfs/pg_battery.pdf) Eurobatt claims that alkaline batteries can have 4-15 times longer lifetime than the zinc-carbon type. But it isn't mentioned under what type of conditions this is. (http://www.eurobatt.net/index7201.html?page=213&l=1)

What does a number on the pH scale say about a solution?

A pH of 7 indicates it is neither acidic or alkaline, but neutral. Numbers smaller than 7 are acid, numbers higher than 7 are a base (alkaline). The further a number is away from 7, the stronger the level.

What are general properties of alkaline metals?

Chemically they react with water to form alkaline hydroxides, a more vigorous reaction is produced by the larger alkaline metals than the smaller ones. Alkaline metals react with the halogens to form ionic salts, because they are so reactive they are rarely found in nature and have to be stored in mineral oil for use in labs In terms of physical properties they are soft, with low melting and boiling points and quite shinny.

The smaller possible particle of gold that can exist is called?

An atom.

How do soap and Alkaline cleaners work?

Well, soap, detergents blah blah washes off dirt, oil and other dirty objects. They have a substance in them called Alkaline. Alkaline is an object that washes objects off, or pushes things off to make move for itself. Like detergent, it washes off oil. The alkaline in the detergent makes the oil lumps smaller, and that makes the oil easier to slide off the object. The pH scale, 1 to 14. 7 is water, which doesn't melt or move anything. below 7 to 1 is acid, and from 7 to 14 is alkaline. So, the number that is bigger than 7, will have a stronger alkaline base. That means that if an alkaline is 8, and another is 9, then the 9 is stronger than 8.

Is it possible for the number of molecules to change as a result of a chemical reaction?

That happens all the time. Smaller molecules combine to form larger molecules; larger molecules break up into smaller molecules.

How do watch batteries work?

The same as other batteries, except they are much smaller. Most watch batteries use a Silver Oxide chemistry instead of the carbon-zinc alkaline chemistry of most common AAAA, AAA, AA, C, and D batteries.

What are AAA AA C D and 9V batteries?

AAA, AA, C and D cells are all 1.5 volt, 500ma batteries of different sizes. A 9v batter delivers 9v at 500ma. Other batteries exist as well (hundreds of them) from watch batteries smaller than the diameter of a pencil eraser to huge batteries used to power the telephone company.

Can you use a rechargeable NiMH battery in a wireless mouse?

yesYou can use a NiMH battery in just about any application you would use a normal alkaline battery. However, NiMH batteries do not perform well in low energy applications - they are designed for use in high energy devices like digital cameras. For things like clocks, standard alkaline batteries are better suited. In my personal experience, the NiMH and NiCd batteries did not perform as well in my wireless LASER mouse. Alkaline batteries performed a whole lot better. The problem is that NiMH and NiCd have relatively high "self discharge" rates; that is, while they are not in use, they will loose their charge over a fairly short time as opposed to alkaline batteries which loose their charge at a much smaller rate and over a much, much longer period. Also of consideration is the fact that rechargeables (NiMH & NiCd) produce 1.2v at full charge (NiMH can achieve 1.4v, but for very short time) whereas alkaline batteries are 1.5v. This 0.3v can be a problem with some electronic devices. 9V rechargeables only deliver 7.2v.

Different types of batteries and their differences?

when it comes to batteries there no real difference. AAA, AA, C and D batteries all have the same voltage, they just have different wattage. so, the smaller the battery, the less watts it has, and the less energy output. There is also differences in batteries based on the technology of the battery ie. NiMH, Alkaline, etc...and there are also differences, while slight, between brands.

Are watch batteries different from regular batteries?

yes watch batteries are different from regular batteries because watch batteries are much smaller and hold less electrical charge. they would not work in anything else other than a watch.

Why use a Lithium batteries in a mobile phone?

Simply because they are smaller, and last longer than other types of rechargeable batteries.

What is the difference between li-po and ni-h batteries?

The simplest answer is that Li-Po batteries are much smaller for the same charge.

Can batteries be recharged by sun exposure?

No, unless you have custom-made rechargeable batteries. It might be possible to build a battery with a built-in solar panel, but it probably wouldn't fit on a "regular" AA battery. It would take a car, or other similarly sized, battery to fit a solar panel. It might also be possible to make a device with that uses solar panels to recharge smaller batteries. But leaving a regular battery in the sun will not recharge it.

Why do some battries last longer than others?

1. Quality - cheaper batteries usually give less energy for the same physical size. 2. Chemistry - alkaline batteries give more energy than carbon-zinc batteries of the same size. 3. Load current - some batteries deliver more total energy with high current loads than others of the same size. Alkalines are better at high loads than carbon-zinc. 4. Size - generally, larger batteries last longer with the same load than smaller ones.

How many types of batteries are there?

There are literally hundreds of different types of batteries available to consumers. The most popular batteries for consumer electronics are AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt, and smaller "watch size" batteries.

How to Buy Button Batteries?

Are you considering the purchase of some button batteries for an electronic item that you have? These are batteries that are exceptionally small and used for smaller electronics. Some of these batteries are harder to find, and you might want to go online and use the web to look for retailers that sell the batteries you are searching for.
