What is the effect of the salt contamination of aggregate in concrete?

It would weaken the concrete, so keep out the salt.

What is the effect of grading of aggregate on workability?

Grading of Aggregates enhances workability of concrete.

What is the effect of platen restraint?

when concrete specimens(cube or cylinders) is compressed, lateral shear stress is developped. But near the area, where specimen is in touch with plates of compression machine, this lateral shear stress is reduced and forces the specimen not to increase area. Thia is called Platen Restrain Effect.

How do you repair concrete cracks in patio and sidewalk?

Once concrete is cracked, there is no way to effect a real repair. You can use sealant to fill the cracks in, however. To do this, remove every speck of dust and debris from all the cracks, finishing with a hard blast of water. Let dry thoroughly, then fill in the cracks with Sonolastic NP-1 in silver-gray or limestone color, strictly following manufacturer's instructions. Pick the color that best matches your concrete. Do not substitute for the Sonolastic NP-1 . . . it is a proven, industrial strength product. If the cracks are deeper than 1 inch, tamp in some backer rod so that you have about a 3/4 inch crack depth to caulk. Backer rod is a round hard foam that comes in various diameters and lengths. The backer rod should be a little larger than the cracks are wide. You will probably have to buy several sizes to fit all your cracks. Do not caulk over the top of your concrete, just fill the cracks to the top.

What is size effect in concrete?

The size effect in concrete refers to the phenomenon where the strength and behavior of concrete structures vary with their size. Generally, larger concrete elements tend to exhibit lower strength and increased brittleness compared to smaller ones due to the statistical distribution of flaws and defects within the material. This effect is particularly significant in tension, where larger structures may fail at lower stress levels than smaller counterparts. Understanding the size effect is crucial for ensuring safety and reliability in the design of concrete structures.

What effect has the quantity of mixing water have upon the quality of concrete?

the strength of concrete is effected by water /cement ratio as the water/cement ratio increases the strength of the concrete decreases

What is the influence of calcium stearate on the shrinkage of concrete?

Calcium stearate is used to control effloresence in concrete. I don't believe there is any effect on shrinkage. However, it is often added to other concrete admixtures, like water reducers. Those products can effect shrinkage, but usually they help to reduce it.

What is the effect of adding marble powder on durability of concrete?

Consider what marble powder is. It is basically calcite, which is an already common component of concrete. Adding more would be to increase the ratio of calcium carbonate to other plasticizing materials. In effect, it would make the concrete more stony and brittle.
