Madam Bhikaji Cama was an Indian independence activist who was one of the prominent figures in the Indian independence movement. She was known for her efforts to promote Indian self-rule and independence, and for being one of the first people to hoist the Indian flag on foreign soil in 1907 at the International Socialist Conference in Stuttgart, Germany.
The first flag was hoisted in 1906. In 1907, the second form of the flag was hosted. In 1917, another version was hoisted in Paris. A youngster presented another version to Mahatma in 1921Êand it was adopted as the flag. In 1931, the tricolor was adopted as the national flag. The final version of the flag, which had a spinning wheel was adopted in 1947
Bhikhaji Rustom Cama was the first Indian to have raised an Indian flag on foreign soil and announced to the world our political flight with the British for the country's Independence. Madame Cama's flag had green on the top, golden saffron and red at the bottom. Eight lotuses, representing the eight provinces, were lined on the Indian flag. Vande Mataram was written in gold with the Crescent towards the hoist of the flag and the Sun on the other side.
