The four characteristics of cooperative verbal communication are honesty, clarity, empathy, and respect. Honest communication involves being truthful and transparent. Clarity ensures that the message is easily understood by all parties. Empathy involves understanding and considering the feelings of others. Respect is essential in acknowledging and valuing the perspectives of each person involved.
Non electronic methods of communication are ways of communicating through non-electronic sources such as letters, reports, memorandums, etc. Before the invention of electricity, Communication was slow and difficult. Some messages took days, weeks and even months to arrive to its destination. It was also not as affective and less people were able to receive these messages at once.
G. W. Porter divides non-verbal communication into four broad categories: Physical. This is the personal type of communication. It includes facial expressions, tone of voice, sense of touch, sense of smell, and body motions. Aesthetic. This is the type of communication that takes place through creative expressions: playing instrumental music, dancing, painting and sculpturing. Signs. This is the mechanical type of communication, which includes the use of signal flags, the 21-gun salute, horns, and sirens. Symbolic. This is the type of communication that makes use of religious, status, or ego-building symbols.

For instance, two individuals that speak different languages might have difficulty in getting their message across to each other. The factors that affect communication are culture, age, non verbal communication and a persons listening skills. Other factors include a persons upbringing, gender and social economic class.
