The shipper has to be willing to agree the terms of a telex release. If the shipper will agree to have a telex release issued all they need to do is inform the carrier or freight forwarder that the bill of lading needs to be a telex release instead of an original bill of lading. Normally, the shipper will only agree to a telex release if the consignee pays for the goods prior to shipping, otherwise the shipper will not have any recourse with a telex release if the consignee fails to pay.
Bank of America does not have a Telex number. Use SWIFT number BOFAUS3N for wire transfer.
The primary form of business communication in the 1970's was the telephone. There were no fax machines and very few computer networks available to anything other than big universities and military systems. The primary data communication was via a device called a TELEX machine. Which used speical TELEX lines to talk to each other on. The tones were then converted into text and printed on a golf ball typewriter. At the same time punched tape was created in 5 bit binary which could be read through a Telex machine to reprint the messages again. Refer to the link at the bottom of the page for a photgraph and description of this wonderful (albeit noisey) machine.
The advantage over telegraph is that ordinary people could read the output and over the telephone that there was a written record and the recipient did not need to be present to receive a message. The disadvantages are that it is expensive and requires special phone connections.
Oh, dude, a telex is like an old-school communication system where messages are sent over telephone lines using a teletypewriter, while a telegram is like the OG text message sent over telegraph wires. So, it's basically like comparing a rotary phone to a carrier pigeon, both outdated but with their own vintage charm.
