Any length of high impedance cable distorts to some extent, especially if the source is high impedance, such as a guitar pickup.
The voltage from the source must charge the cable's capacitance, and this tends to kill the high frequencies more than the lows, thus altering the characteristics of the sound.
Guitarists will tell you they can hear a difference with cables over 5 meters or so.
There is no magic length that suddenly sounds 'bad', it is a gradual and subtle change. Try your 10 meter cable, it may sound perfect for your application.
If you are feeding audio from a low impedance source, such as a CD player or active (amplified) pickup, then you should have no problems.
