They are commands. If you put a list of commands together to carry out a more detailed task, the list of commands are referred to as a program.
Click on... Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. Search for the program in the list, click it and select uninstall. This will delete the program files from your computer. The registry entries will be removed on re-boot.

Removing any program is fairly easy... Click on Control Panel > Programs and features. Select the program from the list and choose uninstall. Once removal has been done - re-boot your computer to remove any of the program's references from your registry.

That's because your computer doesn't have a program on it that will recognize the type of program you're opening, so it gives you the list from which to choose. Without knowing what type of file it is, you'll have to determine that and look on the 'net for a program that will open that specific type of file.

Right click on the file then select open. In the new window select to choose a program from a list then choose notepad
You can see what programs are active or not in the startup tab by typing in msconfig in the run command. You cannot add programs to the list, they appear automatically. However, you can choose which programs in the list start automatically when you turn on your computer by checking the Enable or Disable box for each program.
