transport layer processes occur between the applicaitoin layer and internet layer of the TCP/IP and between the session layer and network layer of the OSI model.
1. Transport layer ensure data is sent & received successfully between two computers. If data is sent incorrectly this layer asks for re-transmission of data. 2. If the message is too large it breaks the message (from session layer) into smaller datagram and appends appropriate unit header information. 3. It ensures reliable service to the top three layers. 4. By providing session layer with a reliable message transfer service it hides all the detailed network information from the session layer.

A TCP session is a data transfer that takes place using the transmission control protocol. A session has three phases, connection establishment, data transmission, and connection termination.
It is called Transport layer.
Session, transport and network
Session Layer, this layer helps out with the task to carry information from one node (workstation) to another node (workstation). A session has to be made before we can transport information to another computer.
