I normally find information for topics that interest me by typing key words about the topic in to a search engine, such as Google or bing. From there I look through the results and then decide what is the closest to what I am looking for. Once I am at at the web site, I generally look for an opening statement, copyright dates, when the page was last updated, authors, publishing companys, and if the web site ends in .gov, .com, .edu, et al. I also look to see if the page has any references sourced. I do not look for information at pages where people can edit the pages or if it is a blog because the information is generally biased. Following these simple steps and looking for these details are a deciding factor in the reliablity of the website. If I cannot find any information about the topic on the internet, I will look for the information in a library. Generally, I try to find reliable information on the topic by first looking in encyclopedias that less than 4-years-old.
