Because iTunes is a terrible program.
Get winamp (a much better program to play and catalog music) and stop giving apple 60% of the money for the music that an artist makes. There are many other resources on the web that are much more fair to the musicians that you want to support.

your itunes most likely says you could not enter your itunes OR we are having some technical difficulties if that does happen then just come back to it in a couple of hours... if it still doest work then just restart it.. hey that's what i did
Try uninstalling it and einstalling it. That may make it work

Only the ones that come with your iPod Chromatic are free, (At least I think) but you can get some from iTunes if you have an iTunes store account. If you don't, you need to share credit card information with iTunes
