This type of memory needs a constant supply of electricity to retain.

Hard drives, which are a non-volatile memory (Doesn't require a constant stream of electricity) , will retain all its information even when power is off.

When you save your game or your word document, or save a draft of your email, you're telling the computer to send the information from RAM to a place on your hard drive, like wise when you load the data or open it, you are telling the computer to take from the hard drive, and put it into RAM
