Prior to the implementation of modern broadband internet, AOL (America Online) was one of the first Internet service providers for people with dial-up. With later advances in Internet bandwidths, AOL slowly scaled down their Internet services and eventually discontinued their Internet service to provide a feature (that was formerly exclusive to their web browsing platform in their ISP days) called AIM (AOL Instant Messenger).
