An external modem is usually more expensive than a card modem, even though the external modem is usually slower. The external modem has the added expense of external casing and additional translation to serial, parallel, SCSI or USB formatting.
An internal modem consists of a card that is installed in the computer, it has no additional wires or hardware. An external modem is more expensive to produce because, in addition to the card, there is the plastic housing that contains it, indicator lights, and cables to connect it to your computer.

An internal modem is virtually a card that plugs into a board inside of your computer. It has no lights & is powered by the computer's power transformer.... An external modem is a stand alone unit which usually requires an independent power source i.e. a small transformer that plugs into a power socket. It is different to an internal modem in that it provides visual indication, via lights , which indicate the status of your connection...... this can be handy when eliminating computer connection faults. It is also the more expensive of the two for those reasons.
Fix a modem? You would be better of buying or getting a new modem Depending on your needs they can be cheap or more expensive.
If you don't want to have to use your computer, there are external capture cards available. Yet they are a little bit more expensive then an internal video capture card.
i would say not recommended depending on the modems capabilities. if the modem was an expensive($40+) one then yes, cheaper i would say no. more expensive =better quality. Less expensive= not the greatest quality.
No, buying a more expensive modem will not increase your connection speed. In order to get a faster connection, a person needs to have a high speed connection, such as broadband or cable. Having a defective modem or router can slow down a person's speed if they already have broadband service.
Internal modems can cost as little as $20.00 for a dial-up version. Cable modems are a lot more expensive.
Since this was posted under Cable Modems, I'm assuming that you are asking about the (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) cable modem which allows different cable companies and different cable modem manufactures all to adhere to a uniform set of protocols and modulation schemes to allow for inter and intra market competition. Go to Wikipedia and search DOCSIS for more information if that truly was your question.
yea but the dsi is more expensive like that
I want a more colorful modem. My modem is missing. Why can't my computer operate without a modem?
The cost of a CF Memory Card depends on which model of the memory card is being purchased. More recent models are more advanced and more expensive than older models.
