The MCA degree is equivalent to B.Tech degree in computer Science or Software engineering. If you have simple graduation degree and want to make career in the software industry then you can join MCA course. Facts:

-> MCA is not BTECH/BE.

-> MCA just focuses on Software Engineering discipline with minor focus on Maths or Hardware.... So you can never go into Chip Design/VLSI/Microelectronics or even Hardware Design market. But would rather be in support or if you are extremely lucky. You may get work in low end development market, with bad pay-grade.

->BE/BTech is good if you want to get into PHD after MTECH. PHD after MCA is now getting rare and only some handful of University allows this. So you will be safe with BTECH & MTECH.

->Recent AICTE norms dictates that MCA/M.SC. is not allowed for teaching in Engg. Colleges. So far less job opportunities. BTech again scores high here.

->MCA is equvalent to BTECH not ME/MTECH. So beware.....and don't get distracted by the M in MCA. Again, garbage.

-> Oh, and IIT or IGNOU or JU or BESU - None allows MCAs to get into PHD. So you have to search for ANY job after getting your MCA.

->And (I know this will be tough to hear), MCA is not worth the money. BTECH is a return of investment. You will get promoted early and get a better life quicker then a MCA grad can. New MCA grads will have tough time, so if you are thinking about BCA / MCA, think twice.

->Its wrong to compare MCA with BE/BTECH.....MCA is not worth it.

It's really very Wrong to Compare BE / Btech to MCA, because, as you all know that BE / Btech is NOT Eligible for doing Ph.D (CS/IT), as MCA degree is Eligible for Ph.D
