Upload is when you transfer something (such as info from a Flash Drive, or songs from a CD inserted in your computer) into your computer. So it refers to anything from an external source that you are putting into your computer.

Download refers to anything you transfer from the internet or email into your computer.

"During a download we receive files and during an upload we send files." That is the difference.
