Ghana's staple foods are mainly starchy and filling foods like: potatoes, plantains, yams, rice, corn, etc. Fufu (like a gluey paste, they resemble mashed potatoes) is a daily food made out of these staples and the most significant food in Ghana. Ghanaians believe in eating heavy and starchy meals to avoid constant hunger. They flavor the bland staple foods they eat with local plants, spices, chilies, and herbs. Curry, ginger, garlic, cayenne and cinnamon are examples. Other daily foods (not staples, just favorites) include mushrooms, fish and snails. Stews also accompany every meal.
