Cortes was a brilliant military leader. He understood the value of building relationships and alliances with the surrounding tribes. What we would now call military Intelligence, he used to his advantage. The Aztecs like most of the Pre-Colombian Indians were fierce warriors. If not for good fortune and proper preparation of the Battle field. Cortes would not have had a chance. Had all the tribes combined forces, they would have beat the Spanish on the Beaches. Mexico and Central America would not be as we know it today.
