No, if you eat a huge excess, you can still gain/not lose weight because protein can be converted to body fat as can dietary fats.

It is much harder for the body to convert protein and dietary fats to human body fat than it is for it to convert sugars to body fat, though.

Also, digesting fats and proteins burns more calories than digesting carbs. If you eat an animal protein, you can't just store it - it has to be converted to a human protein (with our right amino acids - not cow or pig type proteins). Breaking the animal protein down takes calories as does building human proteins out of this broken down material. Glucose gets converted to fat much easier. You can eat a LOT more on Atkins than a low calorie high carb diet. Maybe a 1200 calorie high carb diet is equivalent to say a 2000 calorie Atkins diet (some people say more like 1800, but from trying both diets, I'd say it's more like 2000 - people's metabolisms vary, though).

It only takes me less than 2 day to get into ketosis whereas many people take 3 or more days. Carbs, on the other hand, make me gain probably more than most people would. Anyhow, if you eat 5000 a day on Atkins, guess what? You'll gain weight. You probably won't want to eat that much though.

Part of why Atkins works is cause it stabilizes your blood sugar. You probably eat a lot when you're really not hungry - just having a craving (caused by blood sugar fluctuation). This won't happen to you much with Atkins once you enter ketosis. You'll probably only want about 1800-2000 calories even if you used to pack away 3500 a day with high carb eating (this is what I used to do).

Now, 1800-2000 works great, and I still lose weight. Don't know how healthy it is long term, but it does work despite what some people say (they've obviously never tried it).

Can you eat cashews and other nuts on Atkins diet?

First of all the Atkins diet is not the best diet. If you really want to be healthy and maintain a healthy weight try following a diabetic diet. Sounds weird but trust me. To answer your question though, any nuts are always healthy. They contain a lot of protein and they contain healthy fat that is necessary for all diets.

What Atkins Diet Food Should I Focus On?

Knowing exactly what Atkins diet food you should be giving your attention to can be a tough call. This is a tip that should help bring this mystery more into focus. The Atkins diet is generally composed of 4 different stages that denote different styles in eating. Although they are all similar, they must be followed closely to get any real success out of the diet. For example, the first phase of the Atkins diet is called, "Induction." This phase can last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and you generally want to keep your daily carbohydrate intake below 20 grams. The Atkins diet food you should focus on in this case is made up of meats, contains lots of protein and fat, and so on.

Is oatmeal good to eat on a low card diet?

It depends on the diet you are following (e.g. Atkins, Protein Powder, etc.), on the number of carbs you can/want to eat and on the phase of the diet in which you are. For example, oatmeal would not be allowed in Atkins Induction, but it's okay to have it in OWL Rung 9 (in the 2002 plan).

Where can I find more information on hamptons diet?

There is tons of information on the web regarding The Hampton's Diet, but you might want to check out your local library as a free source of information. The Hampton's Diet is a variation of The Atkins Diet, which makes sense since the writer of The Hampton's Diet previously worked for the Atkins Center. This version of the diet does sound much healthier by recommending leaner meats instead of any kind of meat, and reducing carbohydrates, but allowing more of complex carbohydrates.

Is sausage bad for gout sufferers?

Sausage is high in protein, and excessive amounts of protein in the diet are a contributing factor to gout, however, you do still want some protein in your diet, so if you are not eating too much sausage, and you are not eating too much protein in general (which is to say, steaks and eggs and fish etc.) then you can have some sausage.

Can I eat battered oinion rings on the atkins diet?

Well, honey, technically you can eat anything you want on the Atkins diet as long as it fits your carb limit for the day. But let's be real, onion rings are deep-fried carb bombs, so maybe opt for something a bit more Atkins-friendly if you're serious about sticking to the plan. But hey, treat yourself once in a while - life's too short to not enjoy some crispy goodness!
