because there is less land available at a cheaper price so the poorer people can gain more access to food. this all happens due to crops needing less time, care and money spent on them, they also take up less space than say a cow that is eating all the vegetation anyway so provide more profit for the owner whilst still staying cheap for the customer. it occurs more often in developing countries such as Kenya in Africa because they are poorer and can afford only cheaper produce.
