This then leads to the end of that book when she was driving away in her car to the wickery Bridge because she was being chased by something. Her car had drove off the bridge and into the water. Being trapped in the car while it was filling up with Ice cold water Elena couldn't breathe or stand the cold. Water went into both her mouth and lungs which caused her to die.
