How does Elena find out that Stefan is a vampire in the Vampire Diaries?

In order for a person to turn into a vampire another vampire has to bite the person and the person has to die. So in this case. Elena was bitten by Damon several times in the book, The Struggle. This then leads to the end of that book when she was driving away in her car to the wickery Bridge because she was being chased by something. Her car had drove off the bridge and into the water. Being trapped in the car while it was filling up with Ice cold water Elena couldn't breathe or stand the cold. Water went into both her mouth and lungs which caused her to die. In time that she died Stefan pulled her out of the water and left her under a willow tree. That is where she later on wakes up to find out she's a vampire.

In episode five 'Your Undead To Me" is when she starts to realise. An old man approaches them in a diner caliming to recognise Stephen, Elena's curiosity is ignited, she goes to the news archives and finds footage of Stephen from 1953.

Elena finds out that Stefan is a vampire in the TV show "The Vampire Diaries" when she sees him speeding towards her and his reflection doesn't show in the mirror. She confronts him about it, and he eventually admits the truth to her.
