I believe it is, yes Hi To have a monopoly you must have total and absolute control of the distribution and sale of a product. That's why AT&T was told it had to split itself into a bunch of companies known as the Baby Bells (Verizon, Bell South, etc). As far as I'm aware I can walk into a liquor store and buy one of a variety of coffee liqueurs, which means that no one company has a monopoly (unless one company creates and sells them all, but under different names I suppose.) In which case your answer is yes, there is competition and no monopoly exists.

If a monopolistically competitive firm is making profits, how is it able to maintain its competitive edge in the market?

A monopolistically competitive firm can maintain its competitive edge in the market by offering unique products or services that differentiate it from competitors, creating brand loyalty among customers, and effectively marketing its products to attract and retain customers. Why is the demand curve facing a monopolist less elastic than one facing a firm that operates in a monopolistically competitive market?

In a monopoly, the monopolist company is the only product in the market place. However, a company competing in a monopolistically competitive market has multiple "similar" competitors that all try and differentiate themselves with specialized or additional services; i.e. the Italian restaurant serving food only from northern Italy. These companies may be a monopoly in the sense that their niche product is one-of-a-kind, but there are substitute products that can replace them if their price becomes too high to the consumer. As a result, the firm in a monopolistically competitive has a more elastic demand than a true monopolist.
