John McLaughlin formally owned a wagon company. this company later was over taken by his brother Robert Samuel.

This is when John opened up a small plant in Toronto, Canada in 1890 to manufacture soda or carbonated water as we call it now. at first his intentions were to sell the soda water to drugstores and pharmacies for syrups and flavourings.

over the years with this he wanted to create his own flavour, after many years of experimenting he had created the perfect Ginger Ale, which he named Canada Dry.

hope i could help,

Farjad. :)
