Technically when you get down to elements you only have one type of atom, which is supposedly indivisible.

Depends on which level you're coming from, I'd say that from 8th grade down, you should say no. If you're more advanced, you should probably say something about subatomic particles (aka protons, neutrons, electrons).

What can pure substances be classified as?

Pure substances are divided into elements and compounds.

Into what two broad classes can all matter be divided?

Pure substances (elements and compunds) and mixed substances (mixtures, solutions, alloys).

Can compounds be broken down into smaller substances?

Yes, only elements cannot be broken down to smaller substances.

How many groups can matter be divided into?

Matter can be classified into two main groups: pure substances and mixtures. Pure substances are further divided into elements and compounds, while mixtures can be further categorized into homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures based on their composition and properties.

What are the two main categories matter is classified into?

About how many elements form all substances?

All substances are composed of approximately 118 known elements, as listed in the periodic table. These elements combine in various ways to form the vast array of compounds and materials found in nature. While many substances consist primarily of a smaller subset of these elements, the diversity of combinations allows for a wide variety of chemical and physical properties.

Do two or more substances form a mixture?

Actually a substance is further divided into elements and compounds. So we say that two or more elements or compounds form a mixture, which I think can also be stated as: Mixture is a result of two substances constituted together.

What are compounds and elements called?

What new kind of new elements?

The new kind of elements are divided into metalloids, non-metals and metals. In Chemistry, the elements are defined as the chemical substances that consist of the single type of atom that can be distinguished by the atomic number.

Substances that cannot be broken down into other substances are called?

Can compounds be further divided?

Compounds are made up of two or more elements that are chemically bonded together. Compounds can be broken down into simpler substances through chemical reactions, but once broken down, they lose their compound properties. In summary, compounds can be divided through chemical reactions, but the resulting substances are not considered compounds.

Substances that cannot be broken down by chemical mean?

Substances that cannot be chemically broken down into simpler substances are called elements.
