It doesn't "hurt the environment" in any easy-to-point at way, but you are using more water than you actually need to. How big a problem that is depends on where you are. In areas that are fairly dry and have to pump in water (like, say, Los Angeles) it's a pretty big problem; less so in, say, Chicago, which sits on the shore of Lake Michigan.
There's also the fact that you most likely aren't using pipe-temperature water (depending on where you live, this is probably going to be somewhere around 55 degrees or so), so you're using extra power to heat the water.

If you take super long showers, then either take a bath, or hurry up. I'd think that it's more common to take cold showers than cold baths as well.
