At the current rate of warming, we could see as much as 1 degree of warning in the next 500 years.

Extrapolating rates is arithmetic. The current trend is between .1 and .2 C per decade. So if it's 0.15C/decade, then you'd reach 1.5 degrees in a century. This of course is just a linear trend, and there are many indications that it continues to accelerate.

That would be true of the current warming rate were .1/decade. If we view the

climate, rather then view very short term weather patterns we get more accurate estimates that agree with scientific extrapolations and predictions. I do agree with you that some models disagree with scientific measurements and claim we could see more warming, but these same programs fail to predict past climate changes accurately and have literally hundreds of black box variables. With enough variables in any model, you can get elephants that fly.

There are a great number of actual climate experts that believe saturation has already occurred when CO2 reached 100 PPM.

Data from the 1800's and early 1900's show that atmospheric measurements of CO2 were greater then they are today. In 1840 and 1940 average measurements showed 440 PPM and 410 PPM in 1880. This data is considered within 3% accurate. If true, there is no increase in CO2 levels today, outside of normal variations. The current belief in increases in CO2 base their historical numbers on glacial samples, not actual measurements. (Ernst- Georg Beck 2007)

We also have not seen more then 0.1 degree of warming if we go from 1938 until present. To claim the extreme values of 0.15C/ decade we must ignore the cooling of the 40's through 70's and not take averages. If we use average temps from 1930 until present we are seeing no warmth outside our error factor of accuracy.

Is global warming an effect of pollution?

Light bulbs do contribute to global warming. A good rule of thumb is that household appliances consume electricity and therefore contribute to global warming in proportion to the amount of heat they produce. Incandescent light globes work by heating a wire filament until it glows white hot, so they are obviously very heavy users of electricity. Replacing these by modern high-efficiency, low energy lights uses a fraction of the electricity and therefore contributes only a fraction of the carbon emissions that lead to global warming.

How does technology impact on global warming?

Technology has given us thousands of electric and electronic gadgets that make our lives easier and happier. Unfortunately, they all use electricity. Most electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuels releases carbon that has been stored away for millions of years. This carbon adds to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The greenhouse gases contribute to global warming.

How does the increase in production of greenhouse gases lead to global warming?

Until recently there was a balance of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, just enough to keep the earth warm enough for life. If we increase the levels of greenhouse gases then the earth gets warmer. We are in fact doing this through the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity, which releases carbon dioxide. This is the main cause of global warming.

Do fossil fuels increase the temperature?

Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which trap heat and contribute to global warming. This leads to an increase in overall temperatures on Earth.

What will happen at the end of global warming?

"After global warming ...?" If global warming stopped now, there is still enough carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere to warm the earth by one or two degrees Celsius more than now. Life will be very uncomfortable then and many people will have died. If global warming stopped now, it would mean that we have stopped burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) and are managing on renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro etc). But global warming will continue until we move entirely to renewable energy, and that won't happen for a few years yet. Why not? Ask business and government why we haven't moved.

When did the Ice Age began?

Over the course of our planet's history, there have been many ice ages and periods of global warming. The last one of the ice ages started about 110.000 years ago and lasted until about 10,000 BC.

How much has the planet warmed from 1934 until today?

From 1934 until 2010, the last year we have complete data on, the planet has seen less than 0.2 degrees (C) of actual warming despite man's 80 times increase in carbon dioxide emissions. This is partially due to the small amount of overall emissions that man is compared to the rest of the planets natural emissions.

What is a problem with the human race?

There are a great many things that are wrong with humanity. These things include violence among the worlds many people.

What does obama think on the global warming issue?

Obama is really focused on moving some of the troops to afghanastan because we are currently losing that war. Some people think that's all he cares about, but he does care about global warming. President Obama wants to start nationwide the plan in California, some people have their doubts, but you never know until he tries, and we do need a change in our nation, so lets have faith in Obama's plan for global warming.

Why are people still causing global warming?

There is not enough renewable energy (solar, wind, water etc), so people still have to use fossil fuel energy (coal, oil and natural gas), which is causing global warming. Ordinary people can lower their energy use at home, and they can educate their parents or children, and they can lobby politicians, but until governments make industry pay the true cost of carbon pollution, then global warming will continue.

What is the percentage of ice on earth?

Ice on planet earth is slowly decreasing as the day goes by.. The ice caps have been decreasing ever since global warming started to increase at an estimate of 2-3 years ago... So this question can not be fully answered until global warming decreases so that the ice may increase and become more full..

Does the Bible speak to global warming?

A:No. The authors of the Bible knew nothing of climate change. In any case, humans could have no material impact on carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere until the Industrial Revolution. Perhaps we could find passages that we could interpret as dealing with this problem, but this was not the intention of the authors.

How can low energy light bulbs help stop global warming?

A good rule of thumb is that household appliances consume electricity and therefore contribute to global warming in proportion to the amount of heat they produce. Incandescent light globes work by heating a wire filament until it glows white hot, so they are obviously very heavy users of electricity. Replacing these by modern high-efficiency, low energy lights uses a fraction of the electricity and therefore contributes only a fraction of the carbon emissions that lead to global warming.

What are the reasons global warming is natural?

To some extent, global warming is a natural event. Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring greenhouse gas. At normal concentrations, it, along with other greenhouse gases, helps maintain global temperatures at a level that is comfortable for humans and other animals that have adapted to the present climate. Throughout human history until the Industrial Age, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were in the range 260-280 parts per million (ppm) and never higher than this. This is the natural part of global warming. By adding new carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, which we do by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas, and by cement manufacture, we interfere with the natural process and create enhanced global warming, which is not natural.

Is anybody to blame for this situation of global warming?

The human race is to blame, though we didn't know what we were doing! Respected climate scientists say that the world is warmer than it has been for at least eight thousand years and probably for at least a million years. Average global temperatures have been rising faster than at any known time in the past. Clearly there is a problem, but this does not mean we should blame anyone for the problem occurring. From the time of the Industrial Revolution until at least the 1970s, scientists had too little information to prove that global warming is real, and no one could really be blamed for causing global warming if they did not know that anthropogenic global warming was happening. Blame should only be attributed if, now that we have evidence of global warming, we fail to do anything about it. Fortunately, governments around the world, and concerned citizens, are now beginning to take action to minimise further long-term temperature rises.

If global warming started in 1880 why did no-one do anything to stop it?

At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution we were so pleased with the invention of the steam engine, and later, the internal combustion engine, that we didn't look for any side effects. Scientists didn't really take global warming seriously until the middle of the 20th Century, and then it took many years to convince governments that it was serious.

Why is global warmin bad for the world?

Global warming is bad for the world because it affects food chains in a negative way. This means that many species of both plants and animals become extinct. The balance of consumers and producers then go out of balance, and then further extinction continues until we have no more zoos to go to, seafood to eat, etc. The short way: global warming -> no animals/plants = no cute puppy to adopt or yummy caviar to eat.
