The formula for normal octane is C8H10. Each mole burned creates 8 moles of CO2.

A mole of octane is 106 grams, 8 moles of CO2 is 8x44 = 352 grams

So 1.8 kg of octane would produce 1.8x(352/106) = 5.98 g CO2. As the octane value is given to 1 decimal place the answer can be no more accurate so 6.0 kg.

How much CO2 in m3 is formed from burning 10.000 kg octane?

Reaction of octane combustion- 2C8H18+25O2= 16CO2+ 18H2O That mean from 228g octane (16*22.4dm3) = 358.4dm3 of CO2 is produced. {because volume of each mole is 22.4dm3} Now, from 10 kg of octane produced volume of CO2 is = (358.4*10000)/228 =(15719.298 dm3/1000)m3 =15.719 m3.

Why does burning octane harm the enviorment?

Because octane ,C8H18, has a long chain of molecules, more energy is needed to break the bonds. Therefore releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere. :)

Word equation for the reaction for the burning of octane in air?

octane + oxygen --> water + carbon dioxide

How is CO2 formed in a gas-fuelled power station?

It is formed by intense heat burning the carbon so hot that the oxygen can then join up with it, creating CO2.

Which compound is formed when carbon burns in oxygen?

The major product of Carbon burning in Oxygen is Carbon Dioxide (CO2), but some Carbon Monoxide (CO) can be formed depending how much Oxygen is present.

Why does burning 1 kg of gasoline produce more than 3kg of carbon dioxide?

1000g C8H18 (octane - approximately gasoline) =114 Mwt +12.5 O2 = 32 Mwt ----> 8 CO2 = 44 Mwt + 9H2O 1000/114 = 8.772 moles gasoline produces 8x 8.772 = 70.175 moles CO2 = 70.175 X 44 = 3088 g CO2 or 3.088 kg. The reason burning 1kg of Octane produces so much CO2 is that the unseen reactant is oxygen 8.772 x 12.5 = 109.65 moles of it or 3509g of it. Steam or water vapor is the other product.
