These bodies of water have played a significant role in the history, culture, and economy of the region.
The Adriatic Sea bordered the former Yugoslavia on the west. The Adriatic's shores are populated by more than 3.5-million people, with fishing and tourism being the main sources of income.
The Anatolian Peninsula lies south of the Black Sea. It is a large peninsula in Turkey that separates the Black Sea from the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

Modern-day Turkey is primarily located on the Anatolian Peninsula, also known as Asia Minor. This peninsula lies between the Aegean Sea to the west, the Black Sea to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. A smaller portion of Turkey, known as Eastern Thrace, is situated on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe.

West Malaysia lies on the Malay Peninsula. East Malaysia lies across the South China Sea, on the island of Borneo. The Malay Peninsula is also home to the southern parts of Burma and Thailand, and the island of Singapore.
