There are two possibilities regarding the future:

  1. Man-made Global Warming is False. OR
  2. Man-made Global Warming is True.

We'll have to wait and see who was right. There are two possibilities for action:

  1. We can do nothing now. OR
  2. We can act now to identify and control / reduce effects of Man and his "support staff" (cattle, means / methods of farming, crops) on the environment.

This allows four scenarios:

1. We DO NOTHING now and Man-made Global warming turns out to be FALSE:

  • No problems. We go on much like we are doing now. There's pollution in the air from all the burning fossil fuel, and there's wars and dictators to put up with to assure supply, and we are losing coral reefs, beachfront and old buildings to pollution, but that's the price we have to pay for our cheap electricity, automobiles, and lifestyle.

2. We ACT NOW but Man-made Global warming turns out to be FALSE:

  • Our economy will be worse than now. People will have lost their jobs-just-like-daddy-used-to-have. The car industry will have made their last internal-combustion engine. We will be living much simpler lives. The air will be cleaner. We won't be burning coal and oil any more, but will be getting electricity from renewable sources like wind, water and sun. Life is livable!

3. We DO NOTHING now and Man-made Global warming turns out to be TRUE:

  • It will be catastrophic. There will be global disasters environmentally, economically, politically, socially, and in the area of public health. There will be no water for crops or animals, and precious little for us. There will be vast areas of Europe, Asia, North Africa and the US in perpetual drought, deserts. Hurricanes will be more severe, rainfall will be "feast or famine." Everyone will have migrated north and south, to Canada, Siberia, Patagonia and New Zealand, where they will live in high-rise buildings so as to leave some land available for crops. We will all be vegetarians, as there will be no pasture available for cattle. Huge areas of countries will be underwater from rising sea levels. And we will be left with a world that is getting progressively worse, and we are now SURE that there is nothing we can do to change it, rather than wailing "why didn't our parents do something when it might have made a difference?"

4. We ACT NOW and Man-made Global warming turns out to be TRUE:

  • We'll have spent a lot of money on new forms of energy and transport. We will be doing things differently than our parents did, and our children differently still. But we'll still be living in our homes, and running more efficient public transportation day-to-day, the air will be clean, the coral reefs will thrive as will sea life. Not so bad!

Just how much risk are you prepared to take?

We take out insurance on our cars JUST IN CASE we have an accident. We have to take out this insurance now on our future JUST IN CASE global warming is true. If it's true and we do nothing, look at the dreadful consequences.

Answer:

Global warming has been identified as a major concern for the global community. More properly this is called "Global Climate Change" as some areas may be warmer, some cooler, some wetter, some drier...

Potential Impacts:

  1. The sea levels may rise. Technically this may be caused by melting ice from the polar ice caps or an increase in sea height as the less dense water is less compressed. Low lying land like many Pacific Islands and Miami will be under water.
  2. Serious climate changes may result from diverted ocean currents. As an example, the Gulf Stream keeps Europe warm. If the Stream is not running Europe may be much cooler and drier. Crops may not grow.
  3. Ecology changes on the land could include species of animals and plants extending their range to the polar regions. Local flora and fauna may become extinct. A good example is the spread of Africanized bees and Fire Ants. Sea life may also be impacted both through the introduction of competitive species presently kept in other areas by water temperature changes, and by failure to adapt to less saline water.
  4. Human society may be disrupted if changes in rainfall and temperature cause crop failure. Famine refugees may require significant humanitarian attention by the "lucky" nations.

Why is global warming important?

Climate scientists tell us that global warming is a very serious matter and the world has to make firm decisions to try to slow the warming and eventually to reverse it. Some politicians agree, but many lack the political will to press for urgent changes. Many scientists believe it is already too late to stop a 2 degree Celsius rise in temperature.Already there have been changes.Extreme weather events are becoming more common.Heat waves have been happening.Famine is worsening in Africa.Sea levels are rising and the Pacific Island countries are desperate for a solution.Glaciers are melting and the rivers in Asia and South America that rely on the glaciers for a steady supply of water for the millions of people downstream are in danger of drying to a trickle.A:It could (someday) destroy the earth and we would all die and there would be nothing living on the earth! A:Global warming causes an increase and decrease in temperatures in the world. Some cities will experience a hotter climate, some would experience a colder climate. This generally affects the habitat, ecosystem, ocean water levels, etc. In other words, a little increase in temperature would have a disastrous effect for residents living near/on coastal regions. This would mean flooding and also playing an influential factor as to the organisms that survive within a temperature/pH (power of Hydrogen) range, resulting in possible extinction.because polar bears enjoy life not death in the cold ocean....The ice caps moderate the temperatures and climate on our planet. Once they are gone the weather is going to get wild enough that our civilization will likely not survive. Then the temperature will rise until all life on the planet dies.

What are the consequences of a runaway greenhouse effect?

Short Answer:Greenhouse gases have been keeping the planet warm enough for life for millions of years. Now, however, the serious increase in greenhouse gas levels over the last 250 years is causing global warming. A:The majority of the world's climate scientists have concluded that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting from human activities, such as transportation and electricity production, have a significant impact on the atmosphere and are having a discernible influence on global climate. Since the dawn of the industrial age, the global economy has become increasingly dependent on the use of fossil fuels to power our businesses and our way of life. We share the growing concern that, if left unchecked, these emissions will continue to alter the atmosphere and the climate, disrupting human settlements around the globe and threatening human and natural ecosystems.Expected ConsequencesThe expected consequences of greenhouse gas emissions include: Hotter and cooler temperaturesGeneral rise in sea levels, in part resulting from melting polar ice capsChanges in rainfall patternsIncreased frequency and severity of storm systems such as hurricanes, windstorms and thunderstormsIncreased frequency and severity of droughts and floodsLoss of habitat and biodiversityExpanded occurrence and distribution of serious health risks and diseasesCarbon Constrained EconomyAs scientists have gathered increasing levels of proof that climate change is occurring, and why, efforts to combat this problem have gained significant momentum. Around the world, citizens, corporations and individuals alike, are choosing different types of transportation and sources of electricity, and are investing in technologies that promise to reduce or sequester green house gas emissions. It is this group of "first movers" who will lead us towards a more sustainable future and be the best prepared to thrive in a global economy that is increasingly carbon constrained.

Why is it important to know global warming?

It is important to know about and understand global warming so that we can understand the important decisions political leaders are making to abate global warming. Unless we really understand what is happening and the risks involved in allowing global warming to continue, we risk being misled by those with vested interests, who would have us believe either that global warming is not real or that it is real but there is nothing we can do. If we know about global warming, we also understand what we can do to help. We will understand that everything we do to reduce our electricity consumption will help, and we will understand that reducing our petrol or gasoline consumption is another way to help.

What are the risks of using oil as fuel think about global warming and acid rain?

Burning oil produces a green house gas, called carbon dioxide (co2), which causes acid rain, as well as obviously global warming.

What are the effects will occur due to global warming?

Although industrial countries are responsible for the accumulation of greenhouse gas emissions, the effects of global warming are most severe in the poorest countries. Where does global warming occur most?

everywhere on earth.Another AnswerFirst, global warming does not occur everywhere on Earth. Some areas are cooling. Second, even among those areas where it is warming, some are warming more than others. According to global warming models, global warming should be occurring in the troposphere more than at the surface of the Earth. However, in real life, the oppposite is true.

Are the risks assiociated with nuclear fission worth taking in exchange for the energy derived from it?

The risks associated with fission reactors have been greatly exaggerated, with funding from other interests in the energy industry. Even if the risks were to be as great as suggested by the coal industry, they are only risks. The damage to forests, and people's lungs, from acid rain is an established certainty. So is the immensely greater damage already being caused by global warming.
