In 1905, scientists at the University of Kansas were examining samples of gas taken from a well in Dexter, KS. The gas in this well contained 72% Nitrogen which rendered it nonflammable. However, they also discovered the presence of Helium which until then was thought to only be present in the Sun and in a trace mineral known as cleveite.
Alfred Wegener received a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Berlin in 1905. He later became known for his work in the field of meteorology and his theory of continental drift.
The lowest recorded temperature in Maryland was minus 40 degrees F on 13 January 1912 at Oakland. And strangely enough minus 40 degrees F is exactly the same temperature as minus 40 degrees C. There are three other US States that also have a minus 40 degrees as their record low:Arizona on 7 January 1971.Kansas on 13 February 1905 andMissouri on 13 February 1905. That is correct both Kansas and Missouri set that record on the exact same date in towns that are 367 miles apart.
When you shine a certain level of light wavelength on metal, you can knock electrons off the atoms of the metal. This phenomenon was explained by Albert Einstein in 1905, for which he received a Nobel Prize in 1921.

In 1878, Marc Delafontaine and Jacques-Louis Soret discovered the characteristic spectroscopic absorption lines of a new element they called Element X. Later that year, Per Teodor Cleve independently discovered Holmium through chemical separation techniques from the mineral erbia earth. The three are credited with the discovery of Holmium.
