Because the sun at midday is never less than 23.5 degrees from overhead and twice a year is directly overhead. At the poles the sun is never more than 23.5 degrees above the horizon, and in the winter is not seen at all.

Both poles are equi-distant from the equator, so the amount of sunlight received by both is the same.

The only factor that could affect the amount of sunlight at the poles would be the height of the South Pole, which sits on nearly two miles thick of ice. This means that the sun rises a few days earlier and sets a few days later than does the sun at the North Pole, which rises and sets on floating sea ice.
