Generally the older age group of workers have more advanced and better paying jobs. As the nation's population gets older there are more people in better paying jobs than in the minimum wage jobs that young folks usually have. So, there are more people with better paying jobs (mean income for all workers goes up) but all the jobs in general don't pay as well as they used to (the mean for each age group goes down).
